Rental Policy

What is Needed at Pick-Up

At vehicle pick-up, the renter must present

  • A valid driver’s license
  • A valid credit card with sufficient funds for the deposit
  • A passport or national ID

If the driver’s license is not printed in the Roman alphabet (e.g. Arabic, Cyrillic, Japanese), it must be accompanied by an international driving permit.

The credit card holder must be the renter. The amount of the deposit (authorization) depends on the rental price, vehicle type and category, and selected insurance coverage.

Driver Age and Experience Requirements

Standard Vehicles:

– Minimum age: 21 years

– License held for at least 2 years

VW Beetle Convertible or VW Buggy:

– Minimum age: 24 years

– License held for at least 3 years

Scooters

Category XYCN (50 cc)

– Minimum age: 21 years

– License held for at least 2 years

Category XYAV  (250 cc)

– Minimum age: 21 years

– License held for at least 2 years

Terms of Payment

Payment can be made by credit card or in cash.

A 7% discount applies to the total invoice amount when paid in cash.

We accept Visa and Mastercard for deposit authorization.

The rental can be paid with a credit card (Visa, Mastercard), prepaid or electron card (Maestro), or in cash.

The lessee must be the owner of the credit card used.

The credit card may be charged for any additional costs incurred during the rental period.

We do not accept American Express, Diners.

Rental Duration and Return Policy

Rentals are charged in 24-hour blocks.

A grace period of up to 59 minutes is allowed for late return. If the vehicle is returned 60 minutes or more after the agreed return time, a full extra day will be charged at the daily rate.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Locations

Vehicle pick-up and drop-off is available at the following locations:

  • Hvar Town – free of charge
  • Stari Grad – free of charge
  • Meet & Greet Locations
    • Valamar – free of charge:
    • Hotel Maslina – free of charge:
    • Stari Grad Ferry Port – free of charge:
    • Jelsa – delivery and collection available at a charge of €20 each way

Delivery is not available in Hvar Town.

General terms of coverage

Basic Coverage

Included:

  • Third-party liability (TI)
  • Theft protection (TP)
  • Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
  • Roadside assistance

Excluded:

  • Damage to glass, tires, undercarriage, headlights, mirrors

CDW Deductible (Basic Coverage):

  • €2,000 for categories SDMR, EDAV
  • €2,500 for categories CDMV, CDMR, CFAV, CDAR, MVMR, XTMR, XTMV

Medium Coverage

Same coverage as Basic, but with a reduced deductible.

CDW Deductible (Medium Coverage):

  • €1,000 for categories SDMR, EDAV – €25/day
  • €1,500 for categories CDMV, CDMR, CFAV, CDAR, MVMR, XTMR, XTMV – €25/day

Full Coverage

Includes all benefits of Medium, plus additional protection:

  • No deductible
  • Includes damage to glass, tires, undercarriage, headlights and mirrors

Full Coverage Rates:

  • €50/day for SDMR, EDAV, CDMV, CDMR, CFAV, CDAR, MVMR
  • €70/day for XTMR, XTMV

Third-Party Insurance

Third-party liability insurance is mandatory under Croatian law and included in all rental agreements.

Coverage limits:

€1,300,000.00 per injured person

€1,300,000.00 per claim for material damages

Coverage is valid within the territory of the Republic of Croatia.

Excluded from the protection is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver’s license at the time of the event giving rise to claim.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

Personal Accident Insurance is included in all rental agreements and applies to the driver and up to four passengers. Maximum coverage per person:

€5.309,00€ or 6.640,00 in case of death

€10.618,00 or 13.280,00 in case of permanent disability

Coverage limits may vary depending on the insurer’s current policy terms and are subject to change.

Theft protection (TP)

Theft protection (TP) limits the renter’s financial responsibility in cases of vehicle theft. TP is included in Basic, Medium and Full package.

Note: TP does not cover theft, loss or damage to personal belongings left in the vehicle.

Motorcycles – Insurance and Liability

Motorcycle categories XYCN and XYAV are not eligible for any additional coverage options beyond the legally required minimum.

In accordance with Croatian law, motorcycles are insured with:

Third-party liability insurance

  • €1,300,000.00 per injured person
  • €1,300,000.00 per claim for material damages

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

Applies to the driver and one passenger

  • €6,636.14 per person in case of death
  • €13,272.28 per person in case of permanent disability

Coverage limits may vary depending on the insurer’s current policy terms and are subject to change.

In the event of damage, the renter will be charged the actual cost of repairs.

Mileage Policy and Usage Restrictions

Unlimited kilometers are included in all rental packages provided that the vehicle is used exclusively on the island of Hvar.

Use of the vehicle outside Hvar Island is not permitted without prior written authorization from Rapidus d.o.o. Unauthorized departure from the island will result in loss of insurance coverage and may incur additional charges.

Exclusions – Costs Not Covered by Any Coverage

The following costs are not covered by Rapidus and are excluded from all protection packages (Basic, Medium, and Full). These expenses will be fully charged to the renter, regardless of selected coverage:

  • Loss or theft of luggage and/ or personal belongings from the vehicle
  • Parking tickets , traffic fines, or other penalties
  • Costs resulting from using the wrong type of fuel
  • Lost, stolen, or damaged car keys
  • Lost, stolen, or damaged vehicle documents
  • Damage caused by negligence or irresponsible driving
  • Damage to the car’s interior (e.g. burns, stains, spills)
  • Loss of equipment (e.g. spare tire, repair kit, document pouch, Polaroid camera)
  • Damage to additional equipment
  • Ignoring maintenance requirements stated in the car’s manual
  • Vehicle recovery from inaccessible areas (e.g. mud, off-road terrain)
  • Use of the vehicle for racing or participation in sporting events
  • Overloading the vehicle with people or cargo
  • Damage caused by a driver not listed in the rental agreement
  • Use of the vehicle by a driver without a valid license or with a driving ban
  • Failure to respond to dashboard warnings (e.g. dead battery)
  • Other damages including:
    • Broken wipers or locks
    • Loss or theft of external parts without a police report
    • Damage from roof carriers or mishandled luggage
    • Placing cargo or luggage on the vehicle roof or hood

Negligent or Irresponsible Use (Not Covered)

The following actions are classified as negligent use and are not covered by any insurance package (Basic, Medium, or Full).

If damage results from any of the following, the renter will be charged the full cost of repairs:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Off-road or unpaved road driving
  • Driving with the handbrake engaged
  • Excessive speeding
  • Engine revving or drifting
  • Standing up while the car is in motion
  • Sitting outside designated seating positions
  • Driving barefoot or in flip-flops
  • Smoking inside the vehicle
  • Sunscreen stains or other improper use of interior materials

If damage occurs under any of the above circumstances, the renter may be held liable for the full cost of repair, even if Full Coverage was purchased.

Cancellation and Online Check-In

You may cancel your reservation at any time before the planned pick-up date without any cancellation fee.

Cancellations must be submitted either online or in written form via email to: rentals@rapidus.hr

While no fees apply, we kindly ask that cancellations be made at least 48 hours in advance, so the vehicle can be made available to other customers.

Customers who complete online check-in will receive priority service at pick-up.

Fuel Policy

Vehicles must be returned with the same fuel level as recorded at pick-up.

If the vehicle is returned with less fuel, the customer will be charged:

The cost of the missing fuel, calculated at the current rate (€2.00per liter)

A refuelling service fee of €30.00

Prepaid fuel is available only for B2B clients and must be arranged in advance.

Optional Equipment

Optional equipment is available upon request and is charged per rental day.

  • Child seat (9–18 kg): €5/day (max €50 per rental)
  • Booster seat (18–36 kg): €5/day (max €50 per rental)
  • Polaroid camera with 8 photos: €40/per rental
  • Polaroid film (8 photos):€ 25/piece

Additional Charges

Additional Charges

  • Additional Driver: €10/day (max €100 per rental)
  • One-Way Rental (between Hvar and Stari Grad): €20
    • This fee does not apply to Meet & Greet locations (Valamar, Hotel Maslina, Stari Grad Ferry Port).
  • Delivery to Jelsa: €20 each way
  • Cleaning (e.g. spills, stains, odors): €50
  • Smoking inside the vehicle: €250
  • Pet cleaning fee: €250
  • Lost key: from €400, depending on vehicle model
  • Lost documents or registration plates: €400
  •  Administration fee for unpaid fines or tickets: €50
  • Outside working hours fee:
    • €30 (daytime)
    • €50 (night time 00:00-06:00)
  • Off-road usage detected: €250

Usage Restrictions

The rental vehicle may not leave Hvar Island without prior written authorization from Rapidus d.o.o. Unauthorized use outside the island will void all insurance coverage and may result in additional charges.

In Case of Accident, Theft, or Breakdown

In the event of an accident, theft, or technical malfunction, the renter must:

  • Immediately call Rapidus staff to report the incident (+385 91 888 8901 Rapidus Hvar, +385 95 348 8492 Rapidus Stari grad)
  • Call the police and obtain an official report (mandatory for all accidents and theft; not required for mechanical breakdowns)
  • Secure the vehicle until it is picked up by the lessor
  • Collect contact detailsof all witnesses and participants

Failure to follow this process all accepted coverage are considered invalid due to the client’s failure to comply with the provisions of the rental agreement and general terms and conditions.

Special Promotions

Special promotions displayed on the Rapidus website are periodically updated and subject to change without prior notice.

Discounts and promotional offers cannot be combined.

Final Notes

All terms and conditions are governed by Croatian law.

The renter agrees to all charges related to misuse, fines, damages, or violations as outlined in this policy.

By signing the rental agreement, the renter confirms agreement with these terms.

In case of any violation of the terms, Rapidus d.o.o. reserves the right to cancel the contract, seize the vehicle, and retain any prepaid amounts.

All prices include 25% VAT

Prices listed do not apply to corporate or contract clients.

General terms and conditions


PRELIMINARY PROVISIONS

(a) “Lessor” – Rapidus  d.o.o., with its headquarters located at: Dubrovačka 61, 21000 Split; OIB 55966072276;

(b) “Lessee” – natural or legal person which is hiring or in whose name the vehicle is hired. In the vehicle rental contract, referred to as “Lessee“ and is held responsible for compliance with all points of these.

General Terms of lease and rental agreement.

(c) “Contract” – an individual rental contract agreement which is signed at vehicle pickup at the start of the rental period and which authorizes the use of the vehicle, defines the vehicle pick up and drop off, coverage, equipment and services included in the price and the method of payment for the rental. The contract also contains information about the status of mileage, fuel level, damage and possible shortcomings of the rental vehicle and other rights and obligations of both parties who with their signature fully accept this contract The vehicle condition at the time of issuing especially the state of mileage and equipment, fuel amount, damage and any defects on the rented vehicle, Rental policy and General terms and conditions are considered part of the rental contract.

(d) “Driver / Additional driver” – a natural person listed in the rental agreement as a “user” who signs the Rental contract and takes over the vehicle and is also responsible for following all the provisions of the rental agreement.

(e) “User” – lessee, driver and additional driver hereinafter referred to in the General Terms and Conditions of the vehicle lease contract, as the – User.

(f) “Vehicle”, the object of the contract, and whose information is contained in the contract.

  • TERMS OF LEASE

By signing the contract, the user confirms his/her taking over of the vehicle in the appropriate condition for the contracted service with all the pertaining equipment and all the accompanying documentation.

Driver, who on behalf of the legal entity takes over the vehicle and signs the contract, states that he has the authority and guarantees his responsibility to the lessor, in solidarity with that legal person, and is responsible for the fulfilment of all obligations under this Agreement. By signing the contract, the user guarantees to the lessor to have fulfilled all the general terms and conditions of the minimum age required for obtaining the driving licence, and to have in his/her possession all required documentation for operating a vehicle in accordance with valid regulations of the Republic of Croatia. He/she is required to provide the original of these documents to the lessor for their insight and the copy thereof shall remain in the possession of the lessor, as an annex to this contract. The user is held responsible for traffic violations done during the contract term, even after the contracts end.

  • CONDITIONS OF PAYMENT

The user is required to have a pre-authorization performed on his credit card to the amount determined by the lessor according to their assessment, depending on the class of vehicle, the lease, insurance etc. By signing the rental agreement, the customer authorizes the lessor to charge the necessary amount for daily rent per the agreed tariff, as well as any and all daily additions (purchased coverage, additional equipment and services), as well as any other possible costs that are incurred, per the current price list. These charges are performed on the user’s credit card on which the pre-authorization was carried out, or any other agreed upon means of payment. The lessor can charge the amounts to be paid by charging the users account during or even after the end of the lease, when it discovers an obligation of the user, or the user can pay such costs in agreement with the lessor, which is the free choice of the lessor. If the user pays directly to the account of the lessor, he/she is obliged to do so within the specified period of time. In case of delay, the customer is required to pay the lessor interests, as well as all other additional costs possibly incurred.

  • OBLIGATIONS OF THE USER

By signing the agreement, the user states that he is familiar with all the obligations set out below, and accepts them:

  • that the vehicle will be returned to the agreed upon place and within the agreed upon time, in the state that it was picked up in, with the equipment and the amount of fuel with which it was taken, or even before the agreed time, and at the request of the lessor;
  • the prolongation of the agreed duration of the lease, as well as all other changes regarding the lease, must be requested from the lessor, in written form, at least prior to the expiry of the lease deadline; otherwise the lessor is authorised to report the leased vehicle missing;
  • the vehicle will not be overloaded, used for training new drivers, transport or towing other vehicles or trailers, for transferring passengers for a monetary benefit, for racing, endurance testing, speed testing, or for unlawful acts;
  • the vehicle will only be used by the driver or additional drivers stated in the contract, for personal use only, in accordance with the intended use of the vehicle and that the vehicle will not be made available to unauthorized users and third parties;
  • to use the vehicle properly and treat it accordingly;
  • that when leaving the vehicle, he will properly close all the windows and lock it while taking the keys and documents with himself;
  • to only drive on public roads, without the influence of alcohol or drugs, observing all traffic laws and regulations;
  • to take care of regular technical vehicle maintenance, meaning regularly checking the coolant level, oil level, other fluids, tire pressure, etc.
  •  if at any point the instrument panel signals the need for maintenance, or if the user himself concludes that the vehicle is in need of maintenance, he is required to notify the lessor of this and make the vehicle available for it. In the event of damage to the vehicle or vehicle damage caused by the failure to comply with these terms, the user is obliged to compensate all such damages and eventual loss of earnings, due to the lessor’s inability to perform such basic activities and maintenance, due to the user’s negligence;
  • that the vehicle will not be used to transport more passengers or goods from the maximum permissible amount specified in the vehicle specifications, and not to make any modifications to the vehicle;
  • that the vehicle will not be driven outside of the island of Hvar , unless previously announced, for which the lessor may charge an additional fee according to the price list. In the case of a violation of cross-border and territorial restrictions on the use of the vehicle, all coverage packages of the user, mentioned in section 8 of these terms shall cease to apply.
  • that he will bear all costs related to the vehicle use such as, but not limited to, fuel, highway tolls, bridge tolls, parking fees and tickets as well as traffic violations and others
  • on the basis of this contract, the user authorises the lessor to charge him/her all traffic offences, as well as parking tickets and other fines, with no prior notification, if they result from the violation of the laws and regulations of the Republic of Croatia or any other country, and if they were committed during the lease period. These costs will be increased by the handling fees and will be charged to the debit or credit card given at the front page of this lease contract.
  • the user, a legal person may with prior written notification to, and consent from, the lessor, permit the usage of the rental vehicle to a worker who meets the stated requirements, and is in this case required to familiarise the driver with the contracts terms and responsibilities, which in no way diminishes the responsibility of the legal person to follow these terms and conditions.
  • DAMAGE AND LOSS OF DOCUMENTATION

In the event of damage to the vehicle, missing equipment or tools, missing documentation, license plates or vehicle keys, the user is obliged to compensate the costs. The user of the vehicle is responsible if there is damage to the engine, the mechanical parts of the vehicle (for example due to lack of oil, coolant or other fluids in the engine), as well as in cases of damage to the sump, clutch damage (so-called burned clutch), loss/damage of documents and keys of the vehicle, loss/damage of the license plates, damage to the vehicle interior, burned seats, pouring improper fuel or other failures caused by the negligence of the user or the additional driver of the vehicle (such as careless driving or driving off-road). In all these cases the user of vehicle reimburses the lessor with the full amount of the costs of the vehicle repair, plus the amount for the daily rent lost per the current price list, for the duration of the repair, but not more than 30 days, and any other damages, such as the cost of vehicle towing or the impaired value of the vehicle. The user or the person to whom the user has given the vehicle to, assumes the use of the vehicle according to the manufacturer’s instructions, as well as the use of diesel or unleaded fuel, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Any and all damages resulting from non-compliance with these instructions are not covered by insurance and under the obligation of the user of vehicles.

  • THEFT, VEHICLE ACCIDENT AND OR MALFUNCTION

In the event of an accident, vehicle damage, theft, engine breakdown or other similar circumstances the user is required to:

(a) ensure the prevention of further damage to the rented vehicle until the takeover by the lessor

(b) record the names and addresses of witnesses and participants;

(c) call the police and procure a record of the events, except in the case of motor breakdown;

(d) inform the nearest office of the lessor of the events.

The user of the vehicle is obliged to report any damage done to the vehicle to the police, in the event that the user does not provide a police record, does not make a statement, and fails to provide an alcohol test, all costs of damages in connection with the damage or missing vehicle, will be borne by the vehicle user in the full amount, including lost profits in the amount of daily rent due to non-use of the vehicle for the duration of the repair, to a maximum of 30 days, regardless of the user’s guilt for the incident and whether the user has accepted and paid for additional insurance in the form of lowered excess (Medium coverage) or purchased total liability from the excess (Full coverage).

  • COSTS REIMBURSED TO THE USER

The lessor shall reimburse to the user all costs for oil, lubricants, regular servicing, and minor repairs that occurred during the lease period, except the costs of washing the vehicle, after submitting all settled invoices. The invoice must be addressed to the lessor; Rapidus  d.o.o., with its headquarters located at: Dubrovačka 61, 21000 Split; OIB 55966072276. In order to be reimbursed for the above mentioned costs, the user must have received the agreement of an authorized representative of the lessor; otherwise the reimbursement shall not be feasible.

PARTICIPATION (EXCESS) IN THE DAMAGE

The renter’s financial responsibility for damage of the rental vehicle is defined by the level of protection at the time of rental. This liability referred to as the excess or franchise can be reduced or eliminated by purchasing additional coverage, provided that the damage did not occur due to a breach of the rental agreement or negligent use of the vehicle 

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

Included in all coverage packages (Basic, Medium, Full). CDW limit the renter’s liability to a fixed deductible amount, depending on the selected package and vehicle group.

Theft Protection (TP)

Included in all coverage levels (Basic, Medium, and Full). TP limits the renter’s liability in case the vehicle is stolen. TP does not cover the loss or theft of personal belongings left inside the vehicle.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

PAI is included in all coverage levels and provides compensation in the event of death or permanent disability to the driver and passengers, in accordance with the insurer’s policy limits.Coverage limits may vary depending on the insurer’s current policy terms and are subject to change.

By signing the rental agreement, the renter expressly authorizes Rapidus d.o.o. to charge the credit card provided for any damages, losses, or incidents — up to the applicable excess amount, or up to the full cost of repairs if any violation of the rental terms has occurred, including any unreported issues discovered after the vehicle is returned.

  • THE COLLECTION AND PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA

The user provides personal information voluntarily. User personal information is required in the process of realization of the requested service. The lessor uses and processes personal data in accordance with the applicable regulations on the protection of personal data. Information on personal data processing as well as user rights, can be found in the Privacy Policy Statement available at www.rentacarhvar.com / www.rapidus.hr

OTHER PROVISIONS

The lessor is not liable for the damage suffered by the user due to the delay in the delivery of the vehicle, or for the damages that might be incurred by the user due to the malfunction of the vehicle during the rental period.

The lessor has the right to terminate the rental contract and immediately take possession of the vehicle if the user fails to act in accordance with any provision of these terms and conditions or the rental agreement, or if the vehicle is damaged. The termination of the rental service under these provisions does not put into question other rights of the lessor stated under these terms and the rental agreement.

This contract is drawn up in two identical copies, of which one is given to the user, and the other which is retained by the lessor. With his signature on the last page of this contract the User accepts this contract and all of its provisions, and with the acceptance of damage coverage from Article 8, accepts the conditions and terms of the coverage with which he has been familiarised, with Amendments to this contract may only be done in writing, oral agreements are considered invalid. In the event of a dispute under this Agreement both parties agree to submit the issue in question to the jurisdiction of the court in Split, under Croatian law

COMPLAINTS AND OBJECTIONS

According to Article 10. of the Consumer Protection Act (Narodne novine No. 41/14), we inform customers that they can express their dissatisfaction with the purchased product or service by submitting a written complaint at our offices, and we will confirm receipt of the complaint in writing without delay. The merchant undertakes to respond in writing to complaints in writing within 15 days from the day of receipt of the complaint.

 FINAL PROVISIONS

Rapidus d.o.o. will publish and make available all amendments to these General Terms and Conditions in the manner provided by law.

These General Terms and Conditions take effect and apply from September 22, 2025.
